Brushless motor Controllers

Controller is necessary for driving a BLDC Motor. This is power electronics based and has electronic circuit in it. Current limit is very important feature in a controller. Controller automatically limits the maximum current drawn from battery and flow through the motor windings. This feature protects the motor to get overloaded.

Other than this, many controllers are giving various value added features like – cruise control, low speed setting, Reserve feature, Reverse rotation, Anti-theft alarm, brake electrical motor cut-off, electromagnetic braking and many more. These features are explained separately in another portion of this guide.

Current Indian market conditions, the following are the various controllers (current limit ranges) for various electric bike product ranges.

a.           In E-cycle applications, the current limit is around 10A to 13A. ( less than 250W power ARAI exempted from License and registration)

b.          In E-scooter applications, the current limit is around 15A to 20A ( Less than 250W power, ARAI exempted from License and registration)

c.           In High speed E-scooters the current limit is ranging around 21A -30A. ( Greater than 250W , ARAI approved & License required )

Please ensure the Warranty for the Brushless motor Controller before buying your electric bike. Generally they give one year warranty.

DC-DC Converter

DC-DC Converter converts a high voltage DC power supply to low voltage. This is also power electronics based.

a.        DC to DC Converter is used to power the lamps, horn and side indicator buzzer.

b.       Most common converters used are 48V/12V 10A and 60V/12V 10A.

Please ensure the Warranty for the Brushless Hub motor before buying your electric bike. Generally they give one year warranty.
